Neubrandenburg - A leisure experience
Neubrandenburg, the third biggest town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, on the edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District, in the midst of a hilly landscape that was formed by Ice Age glaciers. Architecture and history of the town – routes of brick Gothic architecture

When strolling along the almost fully preserved approx. 2.3 km long town wall with its magnificent town gates, the houses that are built into the wall and the prisoners’ tower, you will sense a hint of mediaeval romanticism. The protective walls today surround the town like a green belt. With its monumental east gable, The Marienkirche [St Mary’s Church] hall church, originally a church with a nave and two aisles, ranks among the most impressive witnesses of the era of North German brick Gothic architecture. After almost complete destruction, the church today houses an architecturally attractive concert hall. Enjoy the sophisticated programme of the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic in the KONZERTKIRCHE NEUBRANDENBURG. The west tower of St Mary’s church houses the permanent special exhibition “Routes of brick Gothic defence and decorative architecture in Neubran­denburg”.

Whether bathing, diving, sailing, paddling, surfing, fishing or boating – the 10 km long and up to 2.5 km wide Lake Tollensesee offers something for everyone. The culture park, a popular nearby recreational area that resembles a green carpet, links the town centre and the lake. The bathing beaches invite you to linger. New banks can be discovered with the liner. Partake of a cup of coffee on the passenger ship “Mudder Schulten” whilst immersing yourself in the special impressions of Neubrandenburg.
The Nordic walking routes of the nordicfit­nessparks take you directly along the lake and into the Nemerower and Brodaer woods. You are sure to have a whale of a time on the Reitbahnsee’s water ski cableway. Experience first-class opportunities to actively organise your holiday! Top athletes and Olympic champions, such as canoeist Andreas Dittmer and discus-thrower Franka Dietzsch, make use of these opportunities all year round because this is their home.

In the midst of unspoilt nature – Tours of discovery in the nearby area

Mecklenburg is best explored on foot, by bike or atop a horse. The approx. 35 km long cycling and hiking path around the Lake Tollen­sesee is particularly popular. Outings to the nearby area and historic destinations, such as Neustrelitz, Burg Stargard or Penzlin, are definitely worthwhile. Neubrandenburg is situated in the heart of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, half way between the capital city Berlin and the Baltic Sea.
