Cycling

Neubrandenburg is intersection of many regional and national important cycling tours. There are also long-distance cycle routes which pass this town. For example is Neubrandenburg an important milestone for the Mecklenburg Lake District cycle tour from Lüneburg to the Baltic Sea.

With installation of the Geopark “Mecklenburg Ice Age landscape” a themed cycling route was developed. The tour goes round the park and with axial crosslinks through Neubrandenburg.

You can name the cycling tour round the Lake Tollensesee aged but it is still the most popular route in the region of Neubrandenburg Tollense valley, a 10,600 hectare large protected landscape area. In the northern part the lake is surrounded by mixed deciduous forests but the farther you come south the more open becomes the landscape.

The recommended routes start normally on the hiking and biking meeting point at the promenade of beach Broda on the Lake Tollensesee. They are not always completely marked as themed routes but there’s a really low risk to lose your route. Beside the different elements of sign-posting you find additional road signs for your orientation. When choosing the route, natural and touristic ways were preferred and it was tried to avoid travelled roads. The signposting as hiking trails and the sharing with walkers are normal.

The Lake Tollensesee Cycle Tour

The paradise for cyclers on Lake Tollensesee

Many cycle routes unite on Lake Tollensesee or have their starting point there. On your tour you face a varied and dynamic landscape with beautiful nature and nice villages.

Thanks to the Ice Age you have to cope with the one or another climb. But relaxing downhill parts and the fantastic landscape are worth the short effort.

Length of the tour:

37 km

Distance profile:

Gravelled or asphaltic, hilly and sometimes calm side roads. Be careful at the downhill parts, partly damages caused by erosion.
